Street Food scoping

10th March 2016

My daughter Skye currently lives in London and having raised a mini foodie fanatic she is more than happy to check out what’s happening on the street food scene in London in order for St. Andrews Event Catering to stay bang up to date with the foodie scene.

One of her current favourite foodie locations is a street food pop up in Brixton called ‘pop’ (ironically). Pop is made up of numerous shipping containers, each container having its own foodie pop up inside. She dragged her boyfriend along a few weeks ago on a street food finding mission- it’s a hard life being a lifelong member of the team.

They started with an idea that we love the sound of: poppadom nachos!!

Broken up poppadom’s with raita, mango salsa, pickles and a spicy Indian salsa.

We’re already concocting ways in which we could create something similar for you guys (watch this space.) We love this idea for a grazing table, laid back party snacks or part of an Indian street food theme.

They followed this delight with mixed Mexican tacos. These miniature sized taco’s had allowed for two greedy bites on three slightly more dainty nibbles

They chose for them to be filled with tuna, pulled pork, veggie and chicken with homemade salsa and guacamole and chips for dunking. This would be a great substantial canapé for a party or event; with the emphasis on punchy Mexican flavours.

Finally they ate a Jerk chicken wrap, where the chicken was smoked over coal, pimento berries and wood chips and then grilled in a secret jerk sauce. Apparently it was so good they forgot to take a photo. Gourmet wraps make great evening food, and Jerk chicken is well established on the foodie scene. Packed with succulent chicken, shredded lettuce, veggies and rich spicy sweet sauce they provide you the sustenance to keep on dancing with all of the foodie ‘yum’ factor.

We’ll keep you up to date with what capital inspiration Skye sends our way and our versions and creations from St. Andrew Event Catering HQ.

Have a favourite street food dish? Challenge us to make it for your event! We happily do taste tests before with you to make sure your dishes are exactly how you want them.
